According to Reuters, the Taiwanese foundry TSMC has already delivered the first chips to Apple A6 to have them validated. Currently, Apple A4 processors, which power the iPad original iPhone 4 4G and iPod touch, and the Apple A5 processor used by iPad 2 are produced by the Korean giant Samsung.
The change in depth is an important step for Apple especially since the company is currently in litigation with Samsung. The Cupertino company accuses Samsung of violating several patents on iPhone technology. The transition at TSMC is a strong message.
Sources familiar with the matter say that all is not yet played for TSMC since Apple controls yields depend mainly by the founder, in other words, the number of functional chips produced by silicon wafer. The production of the processor Apple A6 should not begin before next year and its characteristics are still unknown.
